Helicopters are a lot more complicated than a basic airplane. Because of the complexity in a helicopter that has normal maneuverability, it would not be possible to build a toy helicopter anywhere near this cheaply without sacrificing something. This unit (and others in its price range) have no ability to tilt the flight rotor assembly.
What this means in plain English is that you can go up or down and rotate, but you can't travel in any particular direction unless you use the stickers included to change the center of gravity on the little chopper, which will make it always travel at the same speed, with you controlling (with some practice) the direction of that travel. So, you can't go from horizontal movement to stationary (hovering) or back unless you land the 'copter and make an adjustment.
I had never flown a remote control helicopter before (let alone a real one) but I was able to take off and hover on the first try. It's that easy! It takes a little practice to smooth out the flight (at first you tend to go up and down a lot before you can hold it at one level) so basically, after the first charge (which took 20 minutes) I was having fun with it. The cats weren't sure whether to be curious or afraid of it, the looks they gave it were hilarious.
As others have stated, this item is identical to the more expensive ones such as the "Air Hogs" version. Get this one because it's cheaper.

Its hard to control But helicopters are not that stable anyway. If you dont know what to expect you will never figure it out. I was flying around my living room within the first charge it wants to spin eratically but you can add more power & move the sticks to straighten it out. I believe there are many models of this heli but they're all alike buy the cheapest one. You will have a blast after your first hover. Oh yeah Ive dropped it straight down from 6 foot not a scratch.

My 9 year old son saved up for over two months to buy this helicopter and it broke the very first time he ever flew it. He played with it a total of 1 minute before it broke when it landed. It is extreemly hard to control and it only goes one speed, very very fast. So when he tried to land it the first time, it hit the ground hard and broke. It is poorly made and very flimsy. We also had to charge the battery for 4 hours before he could even use it. So after waiting excitedly for over four hours, it broke within seconds.
