The Rustler vxl is an amazing RC car. Even with the included 7cell nimh battery, it is very fast. Upgrade to a 3s lipo, and the speed is insane!
It is also very durable. Most crashes result in no breakage whatsoever, or minor damage that costs under $10 to fix.
I've had mine for about 1 month, and still lovin' it.
Don't even consider getting a brushed electric car. This is the ONLY way to go...

I got this truck two days ago, and its great! Super fast right out of the box. I would have given it 5 stars but I really think it should come with the wheallie bar; first time I drove it it fliped on its lid. Watch out for curbs though, today I did a power slide full speed and broke the left rear hub. Not traxxas quality fault. I was just having too much fun. You will need space to play (no parking lots with cubs!). Over all this is a great truck with lot of aftermarket parts, so if you do break it you can fix it. Coming from having Nitro powerd RC's, This brushless system has me sold.

For anyone just entering the world of r/c stadium trucks, buy this one!
I've owned probably 10 of these over the years. It's NOT the most refined and sophisticated truck out there. BUT, it's perfect for everyone who's NOT a serious competition racers. These things can take a beating. They work great for backyard bashing.
Pros:
One of the most durable trucks out there
Perfect for the weekend basher looking to just have fun
TONS of aftermarket upgrades available
FAST, right out of the box
EASY to work on
Replacement parts are readily available either online (amazon, ebay) or at your local hobby store. Almost everyone sells traxxas gear.
Also, if you end up breaking some parts and you'd like to upgrade them, check out the products from RPM RC Products. Their stuff is made from a highly durable nylon plastic that is even tougher than the stock parts. DON'T be fooled into thinking the aluminum upgrades are superior. They're not. They BEND, instead of FLEXING like plastic components. Also, the aluminum parts are heavier than the plastic parts. Just FYI.
Cons:
If I had to pick something, the paint scheme on the body is quite ugly, in my opinion. Never been a fan of the tribal pattern.
But, for this price, it's hard to complain about anything on this truck.
Conclusion:
This is a great truck to get you into the stadium truck world. It can meet the needs of the most novice beginners to the more advanced tuners. Keep it basic, and it will serve you well. Or, trick it out, and it becomes even more awesome.
