CHECK YOUR BACKSET! The most important thing to consider before you decide to purchase this item is your doors backset.
Residential doors usually use a standard backset of 2 3/8 inches which means the distance from the door edge to the center of the lock hole is 2 3/8 inches.
Now here's the important part. Commercial exterior doors (usually metal) use a standard backset of 2 3/4 inches.

***Also stated on the product overview is that Smarthome will not accept return for this product if it is defective. You will have to deal with the manufacturer or supplier directly***
The device itself seems pretty well manufactured aside from the magnetic sensor. The plug on the magnetic sensor is very tiny an fragile. As stated on a another review, the magnetic sensor has to be positioned as close as possible to the edge of the door.
Also the screws provided to secure the indoor unit to the support plate are very tiny so I highly recommend using a hand held screw driver for installation.
I would like to see the magnetic sensor incorporated into the deadbolt and strike. Also it would be nice if there was a visual status of the lock and unlock state. Different color options would be cool too.

The Samsung SHS-3121 is good choice for residential use and probably has more features than you will ever care to use.
Let's start with the good:
1) It has no key operated cylinder!! Such cylinders are easily and quickly forced open by skillful intruders. And yet, every other keypad operated deadbolt I've seen is equipped with a key operated cylinder!? It was this feature alone that made me willing to shell out the extra money for this lock (its nearly twice as much most other similar products).
2) The automatic locking system ensures that I will never leave my house or go to bed and later wonder if I remembered to lock the front door. I believe this is also a rare feature, perhaps unique to the SHS series of locks.
3) Its easy to operate, loaded with features, and nice looking.
Now for the bad:
1) Customer support is non-existent!!! The documentation provides no website URL, no phone number, not even a mailing address!!! This is absolutely inexcusable for such an expensive and complicated product.
2) The installation is a bit challenging with lots of opportunities to make mistakes. For instance, the pin that actuates the bolt can be installed upside down, the L/R switch can be in the wrong position, and the interior unit can be installed with the hub that operates bolt in the wrong position (this is particularly easy to do)
3) The instructions could be a whole lot better.
4) The magnetic sensing devices (required for the auto lock feature) could be much improved so to: a) be more robust (they can be easily damaged or broken); b) be more easily adaptable to different mounting requirements; you may have to get creative to get the stationary magnet properly mounted.
Mounting tip:
If you are replacing an existing deadbolt, as did I, you will likely need to drill a larger cylinder hole. One way to do this is to clamp a panel of wood over the existing hole on either side of the door. The front side panel can be as thin as 1/4 inch, but its best to use something thicker for the backside panel (say 3/4 inch), as this provides the material needed for the guide bit in your hole saw to keep the saw blade "wandering" and making a mess of your door. Doing this will give you a clean cut and precisely located hole.
LATEST UPDATE: I am downgrading the rating from 4 stars to 1 star because the keypad is separating from the exterior unit almost immediately after installation. I already returned one lock (and ordered a replacement) for this very reason and now the second lock has the same problem!! This time, I will probably attempt to find a suitable adhesive and resolve the problem that way.

My son was locked out of the house on one of the coldest days so far this winter because he forgot his key. My husband and I felt really bad so I kicked up my search for a keyless lock. As my kids seem to lose keys on a regular basis, we wanted the lock to be keyless. I had also seen some of the key bumping videos. After a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood this past couple weeks, we wanted something a little safer than the regular lock. I researched fingerprint locks but didn't find any that had good reliability ratings after six months. I decided that I didn't want a biometric lock. Then I looked for a lock with multiple codes for multiple users. This lock has that and an automatic locking feature.
We hired a locksmith to install because we are not handy. He had to shave the hole in our door to be a little larger. He didn't flip the lock to right handed so we had to take the plate off and switch the handedness of the lock for the automatic locking feature to work.
We had some trouble programming the lock because the instructions weren't so clear. But once we figured it out it worked well. The instructions talk about tooting noises but it doesn't mention that to reset the master code you hold the button for 5 sec and wait for a toot, then type in the old code * and the new code *. Plus the lock has to be open.
Anyway so far we have had no issues with the lock. I am giving it a 4/5 based on the ease of use and installation didn't seem too bad. Also, 4 stars because we just got it and a lock has to hold up. Because our door in under an arch the lock is somewhat protected but locks have to stands up to the elements. So I'll try to give another review after the lock has stood up to regular weather and use.
