I have had this plane for 6 months now. It has over 50 flights on it and is a blast to fly. The recorded video is good quality (720P) and flights will last about 10 minutes on a battery charge. If you shop around, you will find it $50.00 cheeper. Lots of info on RCGroups.com about the Spyhawk and it's upcoming replacement plane.

Assembly requires some basic aircraft experience but the color instruction does help. Just wished the glider came larger and the camera should have been positioned where the cockpit is so that in the event of frontal crash the damage to the camera can be minimized.
Your have to watch your tube to see what the aircraft can do with its FPV capability. Planning eventually to use the electronics on a much larger aircraft .

I used to race RC cars when I was young but never even flew an RC plane. I bought this primarly out of interest but also so I could use it in reviewing land I wish to purchase. I will get what I consider the negatives out of the way first. First of all the plane is a lot "cheaper" than I was expecting. The air control surfaces are nothing more than the foam cut or melted away so its thin enough to act as a hinge. Some of these perhaps only have 60-70% of the foam still left and are melted entirely through. I cant see these lasting very long but it also seems it would be easy to fix with some light weight hinges. Secondly the instructions are out of date. While nothing major they are not entirely accurate hence the book needs revisions. Thirdly I think the motor is too weak. This might be entirely just my perception considering I have not flown an RC plane before but as an example when getting into 5-10mph winds even at full power and throttle the plane nearly stalls. This also brings up what might be a fourth issue and that in the same winds you simply can not turn into them. The plane will just continue straight. Nothing short of a rudder, full stick aileron push and full throttle dive will get you moving an inch into the wind. Another annoyance was the radio controller does NOT come with a neck strap. Lastly the stickers while good dont work very well at all on the foam and continually peel off.
Now that I have likely made people mad and they are screaming "stupid noob!", the positives.
The plane was extremely simply to construct even with the inaccuracies in the manual. The stabilization works very well. The controller software is very easy to use and seems reliable. The plane charger charges it fast and the battery lasts a decent amount of time. While the control surfaces concern me regarding durability the rest of the plane does not. On my maiden flight I crashed this poor plane maybe a good 40 times in one day. Everything from tumble rolls to 30+ foot nose dives full throttle right into the ground. All that happens is the cockpit cover pops off, the wings pop out. Thirty seconds of less and you are tossing the plane back into the wind and flying. The plane also seems fairly easy to fly, when I wasnt crashing it. =)
I was torn between this and getting a sky surfer kit with the camera etc. I think perhaps that would have been a better route but I really dont know. So long as this radio controller and the servos etc will work with another plane I think this is an ok buy and an ok plane for a beginner. If you have someone available with experience though it might be worth buying the components separately to construct your own FPV.
