Overview
I made the mistake of getting this heli as my first hobby grade heli. I went straight from a syma coax 3.5CH to this full Blade 450 3D CP. Sure I read all of the warnings, did tons of research, and could barely fly the coax, yet I didn't think it was possible anything could be as hard to fly as everyone said. Even with training gear on, I didn't even get off the ground without my first crash. 3 crashes and $200.00 later I almost gave up. I had yet to even hover let alone fly.
I finally decided to try again 3 months later but instead got the Blade 120 SR. Within 2wks of flying the Blade 120SRI was able to hover the Blade 450 3D. So if you are even considering making this your first heli, I strongly recommend you get the Blade 120SR first.
Flying
If you already know how to fly a CP or are looking to move up to a 400 size RC heli, but don't want to dish out the $$ for a TREX then this is the heli for you. Not to say it is cheap by any means, a crash will on average cost you about 3hrs of repair time and at least $50, but when it is in the air its a great stable extremely responsive heli. The components are reasonably well made for the price point, but there are many plastic parts which will quickly break in a crash. For an intermediate pilot this heli will definitely be able to outperform your flying capabilities without breaking the bank.
Upgrades
There are a ton of upgrades available, but I have learned that most of the time they are not really worth it. By the time you get done adding on all of the upgrades you could have gotten a better heli, not to mention that typically what happens after an upgrade is that the upgraded part doesn't break but everything around it gets even more damaged.
Flying Time
I average 6 min of flying time per battery without hitting LVC.
Wind Flight Characteristics
It does get a little jumpy in wind as does any heli, but with my very limited flying ability I was still able to manage it reasonably well about 20' off the ground in 10mph wind with gusts up to about 15mph.
Parts Availability
Parts are very easy to get, every single part down to the last washer is available on Amazon, also my LHS (HobbyTown USA) carries tons of Eflight (Blade) and Align (TREX) parts. There are a lot of knockoffs out there and no name brands that are a little cheaper, but if you have to wait on the parts from Taiwan after each crash you won't get much flying time.
Conclusion
This is a great 400 sized heli, not sure how well it will hold up with 3D flying, but I doubt I'll need to worry about that for at least a yr. So far its performing great with basic scale flying. I would recommend not getting the RTF version, you definitely want a better transmitter, you will save money in the long run by getting the BNF and a good DX6i or better transmitter. So far I have the 120SR and 450 3D and saved money by getting a transmitter separately along with the BNF versions of both.

I initially gave this model a bad review because I was having a lot of trouble obtaining basic parts for it. A major aspect of this hobby is repairing what ye hath broken, so it's important to have reliable sources after a crash.
So far I have had two parts be listed as indefinitely backordered by Horizon, but in both cases they turned up within a few days. I also had a problem with the battery that came with the 450, and they replaced it immediately.
So I'm back in the air and having a great time. It's my first helicopter, and in the period that I was down looking for parts, I bought the Blade MCPX, and I have to say that I recommend starting with the smaller, cheaper heli first, not because it's easier to fly (it definitely isn't), but because it is so durable. ANY crash with the 450 (and there will be many, if you're a noob like me) means crash repairs and extensive adjustment. The MCPX will survive most crashes if it lands on grass, and parts are really cheap if you need them, batteries are also cheap, and in general you can push the learning envelope much faster. So for each training stage, I do sim first, then the MCPX, then the 450. Highly recommended.

After trying for months to get a heli I bought on craigslist to work I finally broke down and bought this bird. I was not disappointed ! I was able to hover on my first flight (after months of simulation, of course!) It's very stable so it makes a good first heli. I love it!
