5Amazing

By Riley

This is amazing even though I only have the 2.5 motor this is an amazing truck the suspension blows me away the articulation is so cool. If you break this truck in right as you get it it will be incredible reaching speeds of almost 55 MPH. I would highly recommend this truck to anyone over 12 years old although the truck and gas is quite spendy along with parts and accessories it isn't to bad after you got everything back here is a list of comon things you'll need to buy for this:

Gas 20-40$(comes in 1 gallon containers.
Glow Plugs-$7 Each
Tires(optional)-30-100$
lots of batteries-the normal price of double AA's
optional:
toolbox for you truck parts-30-50$
and extra tools-5-100$

5Amazing Machine!

By JCSimmers

I first purchased a T-Maxx 3.3 which is great for bashing but I then wanted something with better handling.

IMPORTANT NOTE: From the factory both my T-Maxx and Revo had a loose slipper clutch. This means the engine is turning but the power doesn't make it to the transmission. Neither would shift into second until I tightened the slipper clutch. I have spoke with others and this is very common. Tighten that slipper clutch before break in!

First off, don't expect to pay for it and be done. You'll end up putting a few hundred into this beast before you know it. It's not that the truck sucks, it's that it's so much fun you'll want more.

Second, this has an engine and like a full size engine parts break and require maintenance. If you aren't up for constant maintenance I suggest the E-Revo. Tuning can also be tricky but with the help of YouTube you'll figure it out. Personally, the maintenance is apart of the hobby. I love working on the engine and making all of the fine adjustments. Many have said that they get 5-8 gallons out of a TRX 3.3 engine. Even more if you take good care of it and don't run too lean.

Aside from the engine maintenance there are dozens of other parts that can break if you beat on it enough. A-Arms are a common part that breaks after a good bashing and once this happens go with RPM A-Arms all around. Search the web and you'll see nothing but positive feedback on these parts.

Stay away from all that flashy aluminum. It's expensive and heavy. Though it may not break, it bends, and that's even worse. HOWEVER, some parts are worth replacing with aluminum. Bulkheads and shock towers are not a bad idea.

Follow this rule: Don't upgrade until it breaks!

Once it breaks:

- A-Arms break: RPM A-Arms all around with true-track rear. Move pivot ball retainers from stock axle carriers onto the RPM ones. This will prevent pivot balls from popping out.

- Opti-Drive breaks (For the racers): Go with the center differential kit (this comes with the forward only conversion). Also purchase the rear brake kit.

- Opti-Drive breaks (For the offroaders): Go with the forward only conversion. No center differential or brake kit. You want all power to all wheels for offroad running and bashing.

- EZ-Start: It will fail eventually, many recommend a pull start and others recommend a bump start. Personally I would go with the pull start and a hot shot.

- Toe Links: Go with the upgraded Traxxas toe links. They come in red and black.

- Bulkhead: Aluminum all the way

Here are a few things I recommend out of the box:

- Temp gun or temperature sensor for TQi. To get the most life out of your engine you'll want to keep it between 220-270F. Anymore and you are leaning that engine too much.

- After break in, get a fuel filter!!! they are only $7 and will keep that engine clean.

- Get another clutch shoe. This will probably go first along with your glow plug after the break in process. (TIP: hook spring together first then slip around the shoe. it's a HUGE pain if you try to wrap it around the shoe then hook it)

- Get a Onyx charger, they start at $30. The charger that comes with this model does not have protection and can overcharge your battery. It's a pain to time how long the battery is on and make sure to get it off. Plus the Onyx charges much faster.

- A second RX battery, Duratrax makes affordable batteries that last. It's nice to have a spare.

- 40wt-60wt shock oil all around, I went with 45wt

- Stiffer springs, green in the front and tan in the back is very popular. It comes with green but you'll have to buy tan.

- For better handling and stability, move your suspension rods to the middle hole.

- Traxxas Sway bar!!! This thing is amazing... It definitely helps and for $19 on eBay it's more than worth it.

- For better offroad handling get the Proline Badlands tire. (NOTE: Do not run these on pavement, it will tear them up fast)

- Get Sanyo Eneloops rechargable AA's for the TQi Transmitter. Amazing batteries, I use them in everything

FINALLY!
Watch the DVD and follow the instructions. Break in is extremely important. You'll want to get on the throttle right away. DO NOT DO THIS! It will seriously shorten the life of your engine. Not only that but you will suffer performance loss because you did not break it in properly.

5Revo 3.3 Rocks!!

By William Strickland

Revo Rocks!! I purchased this truck for my son (and myself) and enjoying everyday with it so far!!! I will agree with the others, this truck is not a toy...it screams and runs like a raped ape! With the exception of fuel, this item comes complete....literally. the truck is already assembled, just finish charging the batteries, add fuel, and your ready. Once you perform the recommended break-in on the engine... be prepared to wear the biggest smile you've ever had. Bottom line... this truck is FAST!! As one other person stated, I did have some initial start problems with it...but I replaced the glow plug, and was able to free up the starter.... never needed to contact support as I was able to get it screaming within 10 minutes. I am highly impressed with this truck and my son is the envy of all his friends as he rocks this monster for them. you will NOT be disappointed if you purchase this vehicle...even with the minor first start issue....its easily corrected and never been an issue since!! One word to sum up this truck...."WOW!"
