I was passionate about RC when I was younger but had outgrown my obsession a few years ago. I had some extra cash to burn and bought one of these from my local hobby store a few months ago. Anyone who is into the expensive RC vehicles instead of the young children's style ones you find at Target knows that the list price does not include any accessories like batteries, or fuel for you nitro heads, and things of that nature. This does. Traxxas has included pretty much everything you will need to get rolling as soon as you open the box. But, those powerful LiPo's are not included, and neither is the charger for the LiPo's.
When I was heavily into RC, nitro was my favorite. But, the somewhat recent release of these killer LiPo batteries had me salivating ... I had to see for myself. The sheer voltage they can unleash is unparalleled. More voltage = more power! If you can afford the 3S LiPo's, you will not be disappointed! However, they are hard to maintain and they are not included in the box. A charger for the LiPo's will run you roughly 75 dollars, and the top-of-the-line 3S LiPo's can run close to $120, if not more.
They are not kidding that this thing will do 50+ with 3S LiPo batteries. If you can afford the total cost, you will be satisfied.
Traxxas is known for their tough products. I also have a six year old T-MAXX that rarely breaks. I have upgraded the engine several times (the engines inherently don't last long), however I have put roughly 50 gallons of nitro through the transmission in my T-MAXX. The transmission still 100% stock and has had no upgrades or replacement parts from day one. Actually, I have replaced the shaft with the reverse gear with a forward only shaft, but that was only out of personal preference, not because something broke. Plus, the radio I use is only 2 channel (it's old but trustworthy). This boat is no exception. Traxxas is awesome.

I purchased the same product from Hobbytron for $30 more plus shipping, handling, and processing fees. AND including the cost of returning a 15lb+ package and a 20% restocking fee. I wish I had purchased this gift from Amazon Prime because when the gift recipient wanted to return it, I would have saved so much money and return hassles. And if the gift recipient had kept this gift, I would've saved $30. I wish HobbyTron let me review their service but instead I'll praise a better deal. Did I mentions this ships prime and HobbyTron took weeks? I have boys and a spouse who love gadgets. I'd be a loyal customer. But I hate online retailers or any retailer that has awful customer service and legitimate returns policies that take advantage of the fact the details aren't given until you've purchased.
If you're considering this, buy prime from Amazon after comparing prices and costs. And if you're buying for the best and fastest, don't assume you'll never sell the beach/lake house and using this powerful device in a personal pool would be dangerous. But don't buy from HobbyTron that will cost you if you never open it and must return it.

Right out of the box this boats fast handles great and is a lot of fun. Only gripe I have is it doesn't come with a charger.
